Dear Johnson Thunderbird Families:

Thank you for a smooth start to the school. We appreciate your attention and participation in our school activities and school news. This year we have the pleasure of teaching 592 students. Along with our 30 preschools this makes for a large student body. We have made it our priority to prepare your students for the world that they will live in. To that end we continue to evolve as professionals and grow our programs to strengthen the frequency and depth technology application use in their school day.

Our building goals are focused on technology, standards implementation and meeting the needs of every student through a strong Multi-Tier System of Support. A detailed version of our Johnson Elementary building goals is posted on our website.

The three foundational pillars of our building goals include: Technology, MTSS Process and Standards Work. We will continue the full implementation of our character education program incorporating important new strategies aimed to deter mean and cruel behavior.

MTSS

We will decrease the number of students in the “red zone” by 18% & 25% in Reading and Mathematics respectively per I-Ready data by strengthening the MTSS processes and teacher support.

Technology

IT Professional Development will reflect the needs of JES staff. The education our students receive will be enhanced through their use of technology and our deliberate application.

Standards Work

Continue the refinement of standards implementation, while incorporating new curriculum resources including Lucy Calkins’ Writing Units of Study and Reflex Math.

Johnson Elementary has been focused on providing a strong foundation of character education for our students for the last few years. This commitment includes opportunities for student leadership – in the classroom, in the cafeteria, programing and on the playground.

We have a strong parent organization at Johnson Elementary. We invite you attend their monthly meetings.

Respectfully,

Cheryl A. Gomez, Principal Johnson Elementary
